About the Luton Health and Nature Partnership
Why the partnership was formed and what we want to achieve.
Background
We are a partnership of organisations offering nature-based activities, healthcare professionals and council officers - all working in Luton.
The group was kick-started by Natural England in 2023, and we're now working together to promote nature-based activities and services.
Why a partnership?
Green social prescribing is not a new concept, but:
turning referrals into regular attendees is slow-going for most of us
there are barriers around access to nature-based activities
our organisations have been in Luton a long time - but still not everyone is aware of them
Demand for social prescription is huge, so we want to improve the links between providers of nature-based activities and healthcare professionals in our town. We want to help make green social prescribing work for people in Luton, so everyone can enjoy time in nature.
You can view more about how this project came about in this short presentation that we put together for the Total Wellbeing Social Prescription Networking Event on 14 March 2025.

build lasting relationships between healthcare providers and nature-based activity providers in Luton
maintain a forum to regularly share funding opportunities and explore joint applications, securing ongoing financial support
continue to enable and expand people’s access to nature spaces within and beyond the Nature Cities project area, creating lasting health and wellbeing benefits
increase and retain volunteer numbers across projects, strengthening long-term conservation and green space work across Luton
